Revolutionary Arts & Crafts

Remember how during the French Revolution, the sansculottes women would sit with their knitting as the heads of the aristocracy rolled from the guillitine?

Well, knitting is back as a subversive activity.

This artist, Cat Mazza, wanted to protest the exploitation of workers in sweatshops. So she came up with this wicked cool idea: to knit corporate logos as a way to stand in solidarity with those workers. She and her fellow protesters formed this thing called microRevolt, and they are putting together a knitted banner with the Nike logo to deliver to Nike headquarters. They need people to contribute border pieces as part of their collective petition. Any style knit or crochet, any gauge, any color. As long as it forms a 4" x 4" square. What a great way to use up your left over bits of yarn. See their Web site.
